An Update from Unique Dental Care
With fall approaching, we wanted to update our Unique family with some news and updates.
Scientists have discovered a link between life-threatening coronavirus infection and gum disease in new research published this month. Gum disease has known links to heart disease, diabetes, and chronic lung disease, all of which also put people at risk of becoming severely ill from or dying of COVID-19.
Researchers in California and Brazil found in a review of studies that certain COVID-19 patients had high levels of an inflammatory immune protein, called interleukin-6 (IL-6). These patients who were also found to have gum disease were far more likely to need ventilators to keep them alive. Studies have shown that deep cleanings and treatments for gum disease can reduce the levels of the inflammation-triggering protein, the researchers say.
According to Dr. Shervin Maloyem a dental surgeon in Los Angeles results show that just by doing a deep cleaning, patients will decrease their IL-6 levels by about five picograms per milliliter.
We here at Unique Dental care understand your safety and oral health is top priority. In an effort to keep our patients as safe and comfortable as possible during their visits, we have implemented the Beyes DuraMax Extraoral Suction System into our practice! This aerosol control system removes contaminants produced during dental procedures including droplets, aerosols, blood, dust, and virus, and uses the most advanced Quattro layer filtration system to kill viruses and bacteria absorbed with over 99.9% efficiency. This, along with our ongoing and continued sterilization and cleanliness, will keep your mouth clean, fresh, and ready to fight off bacteria and gum disease.
We are also welcoming THREE new doctors to our office this week!
